12 Injured As SUV Collides With RTC Bus In Jagtial

KARIMNAGAR: As many as 12 people were injured when a SUV collided head-on with an RTC bus on the national highway near Medipally village in Metpally mandal of Jagtial district in the early hours of Sunday, around 5 am.
Police said the injured were residents of Balaji Road in Korutla town and were returning home after visiting the Gangapur Dattatreya Swamy temple in Karnataka. The car was travelling towards Korutla, while the RTC bus was heading to Hyderabad.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the SUV was completely crushed. Local residents said they heard loud cries for help from the passengers, most of whom were reportedly asleep at the time of the accident. On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and, with the assistance of local people, shifted the injured to the Metpally Government Hospital. Doctors said five of the 12 passengers sustained serious injuries and were discharged after receiving treatment.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Preliminary inquiries suggest the accident may have occurred due to over speeding or the driver falling asleep at the wheel. Police have advised motorists to remain cautious during early morning hours, particularly while undertaking long-distance travel during winter.
