111 LIG Flats Allotted in Gachibowli

Housing Board vice-chairman V. P. Gautham said all necessary steps were taken to ensure that only eligible applicants received the flats.

Hyderabad:The Telangana Housing Board on Tuesday allotted 111 low income group (LIG) flats in Gachibowli through a lottery, the first such exercise after 12 years.

Housing Board vice-chairman V. P. Gautham said all necessary steps were taken to ensure that only eligible applicants received the flats. He noted that although the flats could have generated high revenue if sold through open auction, the government decided to allot them at prices lower than the market rate to benefit low-income groups.

The Housing Board received 2,685 applications and said eligibility was carefully verified, including income limits, lack of house ownership and city of residence.

The lottery process was live-streamed on social media and displayed on LED screens. Many applicants expressed satisfaction with the transparent process. Authorities added that refunds for unsuccessful applicants will be initiated after January 10.
