1,100 Singers, 11 States: Nationwide Choral Tribute To Tagore To Link Hyderabad On May 10

“Shato Kantthe Sahosro Kanttho… a vocal presentation in unison with choral singers over eleven states across India will be paying homage on the occasion of his 165th birth anniversary”: Organisers

HYDERABAD: A synchronised choral performance of Rabindra Sangeet will connect Hyderabad with 10 other states on May 10, as Chironutan will bring over 1,100 singers across India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. The Hyderabad segment will take place at Sri Sathya Sai Nigamagamam, Srinagar Colony, from 6 pm, with over 100 local participants singing in unison with the national ensemble.

Hanshadhwani Musical, led by Manika Basu Thakur, is presenting the city’s contribution to what organisers describe as a real-time, pan-India concert using a common music track. The programme will include 17 Rabindra Sangeet pieces performed without interruption, alongside live video streaming of singers from other states.

“Shato Kantthe Sahosro Kanttho… a vocal presentation in unison with choral singers over eleven states across India will be paying homage on the occasion of his 165th birth anniversary,” the organisers said.

The concept has been developed by Arundhati Deb of Sangeet Bharati Muktadhara, Kolkata, with instrumental arrangements by Sourabh Chakraborty. Sohini Ghosh will introduce the programme and Sounak Chakraborty will present recitations.

Hanshadhwani Musical first took part in a 1,000-voice concert in Kolkata in 2023 and returned in 2024 for the first edition of this format. “We are back again… the concept is same,” the organisers said, noting this as the second episode of the nationwide choral effort.
