10-kg Silver Heist, 6 Burglars Traced To Karnataka

Officials from the Cyberabad police said all the accused are suspected to be from Rajasthan and have committed similar offences across the country.

Hyderabad:A day after six armed burglars broke into Khazana Jewellers, police have identified all of them and six teams are on the job to apprehend them.

Officials from the Cyberabad police said all the accused are suspected to be from Rajasthan and have committed similar offences across the country. They have, however, ruled out the possibility of any previous cases being registered with the police in Hyderabad. As part of the investigation, fingerprints and DNA samples from the scene were collected.

An armed gang of six stormed the Chandanagar store, firing twice and injuring the deputy manager before fleeing with 10 kg of silver worth `12.5 lakh. The burglary was committed within a time span of 10 minutes. One of the accused first asked the deputy manager, Satish Kumar, if he was the owner and if he had the key to the main almirah. When he said ‘no’, the accused allegedly shot him in the leg. CCTV footage showed that intruders were using motorcycles without number plates and had covered their faces with helmets and masks. The burglars also changed shirts to avoid detection.

Speaking about tracing the miscreants, officials said, “They were last traced to Karnataka. Our teams are working to nab them. The accused came to Hyderabad two days ago and were first seen at Medchal and then at Patancheru. Today they are in Karnataka.”

Some of the accused have been arrested, however, official circles have not confirmed the same. The pistols they used are known to be country-made. While one of the bullets was shot on Satish’s leg, the other was shot at a CCTV camera, which did not hit the target. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
