10 Inmates From TG-Prisons Completed PG

HYDERABAD: In a significant achievement 10 inmates from TG-Prisons received their PG degree certificates during the 27th convocation held at Dr B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) on Wednesday.
Out of the 10 inmates, eight successfully completed MSc in Psychology, while two completed MA in Sociology. Notably, all 10 were already academically qualified, holding degrees such as LLB, undergraduate degrees and BTech, and continued their higher education during their period of incarceration.
Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla was the chief guest and former director of the national assessment and accreditation council Prof. V. S. Prasad, and former vice-chancellor of BRAOU K. Seetharama Rao was the convocation guest.
DIG Prisons Dr D. Srinivas, superintendent of Cherlapally Central Prison G. Pramod, and TG-Prisons Director Soumya Mishra attended the convocation, representing the Telangana prisons and correctional services department.
“The achievement reflected the department’s continued emphasis on education as an important instrument of correction, rehabilitation and social reintegration,” Soumya said.
Prisoners are encouraged to utilise their time in custody constructively by pursuing education and acquiring knowledge and skills that can help them rebuild their lives after release, she added.
