NIZAMABAD: Ten people were arrested for allegedly possessing nine unlicensed country-made firearms in the forest area on the outskirts of Devakkapet village under the Bheemgal police station limits, police said.
The arrests were made during a joint operation by the CCS and Bheemgal police based on credible information about a group of suspicious individuals moving through the forest. During a search, police recovered nine country-made firearms from their possession and seized the weapons as the accused did not have valid licences.
Police registered a case against the nine persons found in possession of the firearms and another accused, Raju, who allegedly repaired the weapons. All 10 accused were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that they used the firearms to hunt wild animals. They told police that after the recent death of a leopard in the Devakkapet forest area and the intensified inspections by the police and forest department, they were trying to hide the unlicensed firearms in the forest when they were apprehended.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Police Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya, with guidance from CCS ACP P. Srisailam and Armoor ACP J. Venkateshwar Reddy. The Commissioner appreciated the officers and staff for the operation.
