Work Under Way to Establish Airport at Thanjavur: MP

Thanjavur: Works are going on for establishing a domestic airport at Thanjavur, said S. Murasoli, Thanjavur MP, here on Sunday. A sum of Rs 38 crore has been allotted for acquisition of 172 acres of land for laying approach roads and other works. "The scheme has not been dropped but is very much on the anvil," said Mr Murasoli.

The state government has taken up land acquisition for Pattukottai- Thanjavur railway line and the work will be completed in one year. The railways will release the amount, said Mr Murasoli.

He said that steps had been taken to put up a foot overbridge near the Big Temple to decongest traffic.
