We’ll Not Leave Out Anyone: CM Stalin
The CM was launching the Thayumanavar scheme, under which senior citizens above 70 years of age and differently abled persons would receive ration articles at their doorsteps

Chennai: No one who looked out for the supportive hands of the government, be it women, differently abled, transgendered persons and those deprived of opportunities, would be left out in the lurch, Chief Minister M K Stalin said, launching the Thayumanavar scheme, under which senior citizens above 70 years of age and differently abled persons would receive ration articles at their doorsteps.
The welfare scheme, for which the government has allotted Rs 35.92 crore, was inaugurated by Stalin at Gopal Nagar and Annai Sathya Nagar in Tondiarpet on Tuesday, while the Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Ministers, MPs, MLAs and other people’s representatives opened it in their respective districts and constituencies.
Apart from flagging off the vehicles carrying the ration articles to people’s homes, the inauguration was marked by the Chief Minister and others calling on the beneficiaries at their homes with bags full of articles and striking conversations with the people.
Hereafter, ration articles would be door delivered for those elders who had dedicated their lives for the betterment of their families and the development of their State, Stalin said in his message on X, and uploaded photographs and videos of his visit to homes and conversations with beneficiaries who expressed gratitude for the gesture that would make their lives easy.
From Tuesday, a total of 21,70,454 people – 20,42,657 elders and 1,27,197 differently abled persons – could save their regular treks to the ration shops as the essential articles including rice and sugar would be transported in closed vans for door delivery on every second Saturday and Sunday of the month, an official press release said.
The list of beneficiaries of the scheme, attached to 34,809 ration shops, was collected from the Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection department and arrangements had been made for the officials to visit the homes with electronic scales and e-PoS machines, along with the essential articles, the release said.
Udhaynidhi Stalin launched the scheme at Balaji Nagar in Royapettah, which falls under his constituency of Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni, by flagging off the vehicles and then visiting the homes to personally hand over the articles. He also uploaded photographs of his home visits and discussions with beneficiaries.
