Vijay Stakes Claim to Form Govt After TVK Emerges Largest Party
In a communication to Raj Bhavan, Vijay said his party, which has secured 108 seats, had received the mandate as the largest formation and should be invited to stake claim

After emerging as the single largest party in the Assembly, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay on Tuesday moved to form the government, reaching out to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar for an appointment.
In a communication to Raj Bhavan, Vijay said his party, which has secured 108 seats, had received the mandate as the largest formation and should be invited to stake claim. He also requested additional time to demonstrate majority support in the Assembly.
Stating that TVK has the backing of 108 legislators, Vijay expressed confidence in proving majority on the floor of the House within 15 days.
According to reports, the Governor is likely to meet Vijay soon and could allow a window of about one to two weeks for a floor test, considering the party does not yet have a clear majority.
At the same time, Vijay is expected to be chosen as the leader of the TVK Legislature Party at a meeting of newly elected MLAs scheduled at the party’s Panaiyur headquarters later in the day.
