Vijay’s Heart-To-Heart Encounter With Kin Of Karur Victims

Relatives of 37 of the victims turned up for the meeting and some others who suffered injuries in the stampede and have now been discharged from hospitals called on Vijay at Mahabalipuram: Sources

CHENNAI: The rendezvous of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay with families of those who died in the stampede at his Hosur meeting on September 27 turned out to be a heart-wrenching moment as he reportedly broke down when he interacted with the bereaved families individually at a five-star resort in Mahabalipuram on Monday and assured them all support in future.

During the event that stretched to about five hours, Vijay called on the loved ones of the victims, who had been transported to Mahabalipuram by private buses on Sunday itself, at their rooms in the resort and consoled them though the meeting was criticized by some political parties and social media activists, who went all out to attack him for not visiting them at their homes soon after the tragedy

While the TVK ensured that the meetings were 100 percent private, it is learnt that he had a heart-to-heart conversation with the people, giving them the assurance that he would be with them in the thick and thin of their lives in future, sources said.

One of the party hop honchos, C T Nirmal Kumar, who was surrounded by waiting media persons as he came out of the resort said that the families had to be brought to Mahabalipuram for meeting Vijay as the party could not arrange it in Karur due to various reasons.

The campaign meetings that were launched on September 13 in Trichy and discontinued after the Karur tragedy that took a toll of 41 lives besides taking over 100 persons to hospital would resume once the Government prepared the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for political meetings, he said.

Sources said that relatives of 37 of the victims turned up for the meeting and some others who suffered injuries in the stampede and have now been discharged from hospitals called on Vijay at Mahabalipuram.

After their meeting with Vijay, the families of victims and the injured individuals left for their homes in Karur and neighboring places. The TVK had already handed over the solatium of Rs 20 crore announced by them to the families of the deceased and smaller amounts for those injured.

Monday’s meeting was organized only for Vijay to console and reassure them as the party could not do anything for one month, party sources said.
