Vigilance Cells Formed for Complaints Against Police Personnel

The cells have been established to prevent, monitor, and enquire into allegations of corruption, misconduct, abuse of position by police personnel and other unethical practices, a press release from the DGP office said

Chennai: Tamil Nadu police have formed internal vigilance cells in all the districts and Commissionerates to strengthen integrity, transparency, and public confidence in the department.

The cells have been established to prevent, monitor, and enquire into allegations of corruption, misconduct, abuse of position by police personnel and other unethical practices, a press release from the DGP office here said.

To facilitate easy reporting of complaints, the vigilance cells were formed, and numbers have been provided to contact through phone or WhatsApp.

People can report instances of corruption, misconduct, abuse of authority, or other unethical practices by police personnel through the designated numbers for their districts or cities. The details of all complainants and their identities will be kept strictly confidential, the police assured. No complainant shall be subjected to any form of harassment, intimidation, or retaliation for filing a complaint, the release added.

The DGP assured that the complaints will be received and dealt with in a fair, impartial and timely manner. The Internal Vigilance Cell will be monitored by the Superintendent of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police and Additional Director General of Police on a regular basis.
