TVK Govt Is Alternative To Established Order, Says Vijay

CHENNAI: Vowing to make no compromise on protecting the interests of Tamils and to eliminate corruption and drug culture from the State, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay projected his government as an alternative to the established order and said that it was built on the principle that all lives were born equals.
Delivering his maiden Independence Day address from the ramparts of Fort St George after unfurling the national tricolour on Saturday, Vijay warned of conspiracies being hatched against his government but assured the people that they would all be thwarted.
Lacing his speech with references to caste, religion and social justice, Vijay reached out to Gen Z, his major support base in the State, and also to Tamil people across the world with a ‘Vanakkam’, in the speech that was bilingual in Tamil and English.
Rescuing Tami Nadu from corruption was a form of freedom that his government was giving to the people, besides providing a transparent and honest regime that had managed to stop the diversion of government revenue and ensured women’s safety and social justice in the State, he said.
Paying tribute to freedom fighters who won independence for the country, Vijay said their sacrifices should continue to inspire the nation, Vijay said his TVK government in the State would work in tandem with the Union Government on matters relating to administration but would draw the line when it came to the State’s interests.
Signalling the continuation of the welfare governance, he said the TVK government would retain all the useful schemes introduced by previous administrations, citing the continuous running of Amma canteens, started by the AIADMK government and the breakfast scheme for school children, introduced by the DMK government, as examples.
Calling upon the people to not sever their ties with the government after electing it to office thinking that their work was over, he wanted their continuous engagement for the effective implementation of its schemes as the State was working towards becoming a US $ 1.5 trillion economy by 2036.
Announcing new measures for the freedom fighters and their families, he thanked the people of Tamil Nadu for their overwhelming support to his government by breaking barriers like caste, religion and money power.
The Chief Minister presented awards to a slew of government official recognized for their distinguished services, the Thagaisal Tamilar award to former TNCC president and Congress MP M Krishnaswamy, the Kalpana Chawla Award to mountaineer Nausheen Banu Chand, who conquered the Mount Everest marathon twice, and the A P J Abdul Kalam Award to noted diabetologist V Mohan.
Soon after he arrived at the venue escorted by army riders in the front of his convoy, he took the salute by the State police after inspecting their march past. After the conclusion of the event, he was greeted by the public who had gathered in large numbers.
