Chennai: President of the Mambakkam panchayat, Veera alias Veerasamy, was expelled from the TVK and relieved of all responsibilities in the party after a video showing him accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 and handing over the money to his wife went viral on social media.
TVK Chengalpattu East district secretary, C V Dhinakaran alias Dheena, said in a press release on Wednesday that Veerasamy, who is also the party’s deputy general secretary of the Chengalpattu East district secretary, had behaved in a manner that sullied the image of the party.
In the video, Veerasamy is seen sitting in his office when he accepts the money. But when media persons quizzed him about it, he denied the charge and said that it was a conspiracy by the DMK that had orchestrated the scene.
The incident went on to reinforce the statement of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, who had averred to fight corruption and not let go anyone found indulging in it.
