TNIKF-2026 Draws Over 40,000 Visitors In Chennai

Three-day Tamil Nadu International Kite Festival records sharp rise in footfall

The fifth Tamil Nadu International Kite Festival (TNIKF) 2026 concluded on a high note, attracting more than 40,000 visitors and strengthening its position as a major family tourism event in the State.

The three-day festival featured giant kites in a variety of designs and colours, along with participation from international kite flyers. Families and tourists turned out in large numbers, with footfall rising significantly from more than 28,000 visitors recorded during last year's edition.

The organisers said the festival was successfully conducted through coordinated efforts involving the Tourism Department, police, district administration, local authorities, volunteers and event teams.

Enhanced crowd-management arrangements, safety measures and improved visitor facilities helped ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for families attending the event, the organisers said.

The growing response to TNIKF has encouraged organisers to plan a larger and more international edition next year. The upcoming festival is expected to feature participation from more countries, a greater number of international kite flyers and a wider variety of giant and spectacular kites.

The organisers said efforts would be made to further strengthen Tamil Nadu's position on the global kite festival map and establish TNIKF as a prominent event in the State's tourism calendar.

They also thanked the people of Chennai and visitors from across the State and beyond for participating in the festival and contributing to its success.

With visitor interest continuing to grow, TNIKF is expected to gain greater prominence as a family-friendly tourism attraction, combining kites, culture and entertainment.
