TN Releases MBBS-BDS Rank Llist for 2026-27

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday released the state rank list for MBBS and BDS admissions for the 2026-27 academic year, announcing that the medical counselling will commence on August 13.

Venkatapathy Velayutham from Villuppuram topped the general category with a NEET score of 705. Srinika B from Pudukkottai secured the second rank with 700 marks, followed by Sudar from Virudhunagar with 696 marks.

Addressing a press conference here, the State Health Minister K G Arun Raj stated that all counselling procedures will begin strictly as per the National Medical Commission (NMC) schedule. Offline counselling for special category students will be held at the Omandurar Government Medical College, while general counselling will proceed online.

Under the 7.5 per cent preferential reservation for government school students, 641 seats -- comprising 537 MBBS and 104 BDS seats --have been allocated this year. Out of 4,860 applications received under this quota, 3,225 were accepted. Dinesh from Nagapattinam secured the top rank in this category.

The minister noted a reduction in BDS seats available for state counselling, totalling 200 this year, owing to the de-recognition of one college and another shifting to deemed university status.

Meanwhile, the rank list for paramedical courses, including BSc Nursing and B Pharm, calculated based on Class 12 board marks rather than NEET scores, was also released, with students from Cuddalore district sweeping the top three ranks.

Health department officials disqualified five applicants this year for submitting fake NEET scorecards and documents, the Minister added.

Citing one glaring instance, the minister revealed that a candidate who actually scored 170 marks had forged their application to show a score of 552.

"Stringent action is being taken. Disqualifications due to fake documents have reduced from 25 last year to five this year, but any attempt to tamper with NEET scores is a severe offence," the minister warned.

Verification of NRI quota applications is also underway via respective embassies, with 212 out of 512 applications already verified.

Responding to queries on private medical colleges overcharging students, the minister confirmed that an internal inquiry committee successfully established proof of excess fee collection against one institution. The matter has now been escalated to the Fee Fixation Committee for official punitive action. Two other complaints were dropped as the complainants failed to produce bank statements during the inquiry.

Reiterating Tamil Nadu's firm ideological opposition to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), the minister affirmed that the state would continue its legal and political battle to exempt its students from the central exam.

He added that the state advocates moving 'Education' and 'Medicine' from the Concurrent List to the State List, or creating a 'Special Concurrent List' where state laws would supersede central mandates in case of a conflict, ensuring equitable educational access to rural and marginalized students.

The state government ruled out any further extensions for application rectifications, urging students to adhere strictly to the counselling timetable published on the official selection committee portal.
