Speaking at a felicitation meeting organized by the Electricity Board Engineers Association in Chennai on Monday, the Minster said that in some areas, the fuse was being pulled out by saboteurs with a view to causing power cuts.

Chennai: No electricity shortage was plaguing Tamil, which actually generates excess power that was being sold to central grid to earn extra revenue, State Electricity Minister C T R Nirmal Kumar said, attributing the sporadic power cuts and the low voltage to the vintage transformers that were over20 years old.
Speaking at a felicitation meeting organized by the Electricity Board Engineers Association in Chennai on Monday, the Minster said that in some areas, the fuse was being pulled out by saboteurs with a view to causing power cuts.
He said 15,000 jobs in the department would be filled up and 300 engineers would get their promotions this year.
Though there was a shortage of 70,000 workers, 15,000 vacancies would be filled up immediately to reduce the workload of the existing staff, he said.
