TN Govt To Launch Roof-Top Solar Panel Registration Website on Sept 21
For the installation of a solar panel with a capacity to generate 3 KW or more, the Union government gives a subsidy of Rs 78,000 and the state will add Rs 22,000, taking the total subsidy to Rs 1 lakh
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board will launch a separate website on September 21 for the registration for the installation of roof-top solar panels with subsidies of the Central and the state governments.
The board is gearing up for the launch a couple of days after electricity minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar told the media that further announcements on solar panel installation will follow.
The Centre is providing subsidies up to Rs. 78,000 for the installation of solar panels and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced in the Assembly on September 5 that the state would also provide subsidies.
For a solar panel generating 1 KW of electricity, the Centre’s subsidy is `30,000, and the state will provide `5,000, according to the scheme. For the installation of a 2 KW solar panel, the Centre provides `60,000 and the state will give Rs. 10,000, taking the total subsidy to Rs. 70,000. For the installation of a solar panel with a capacity to generate 3 KW or more, the Union government gives a subsidy of `78,000 and the state will add `22,000, taking the total subsidy to `1 lakh.
The subsidy will be credited to the beneficiary’s account within 7 to 30 days of installation of the panel. Initially, the payment of electricity bills will be drastically reduced and after five to six years, the investment will have been fully returned and whatever electricity they use will be free of cost.
Besides, reports of power outages, too, have come down drastically after the minister’s declaration that the board is buying power at a cost of `20 per unit to compensate for the loss of wind energy generation in September. He had also assured that there would be no power outages since the government had started purchasing power.
The minister said the government procured 2,500 MW of power last week to continue the power supply without outages after the supply of power from windmills came down. Even on Tuesday, the government had purchased 1,500 MW of energy to tide over the shortage caused by reduction of wind energy production, he said.
He asserted that the power shortage due to falling wind production had been set right and there are power cuts in a few places due to failures in distribution.
