TN to Launch Digital Driving Licence, Vehicle Registration Services From Sep 15
Candidates who successfully clear the driving test can receive their digital licences on the same day
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government will roll out digital services for driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates starting from September 15, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay informed the Assembly on Wednesday.
This facility, which aims to eliminate delays, reduce unnecessary physical visits to Regional Transport Offices, and help establish a corruption-free, transparent administration, will enable citizens to digitally download the Vehicle Registration Certificates (RCs) and driving licences.
Through the transition to a digital format, the government aims to remove the waiting period, which currently takes anywhere from one week to a month, and ensure instant access to new vehicle owners to download their digital RCs through the internet.
Candidates who successfully clear the driving test can receive their digital licences on the same day.
Officials can verify documents electronically by scanning a QR code - different from the chip-embedded physical cards - which helps significantly reduce the risk of fake or counterfeit documents.
Further, the facility ensures easy recovery if the physical documents are lost or damaged. They can be downloaded and printed.
"These reforms are part of a broader plan to allow citizens to apply for and manage transport-related services from any Regional Transport Office (RTO) across Tamil Nadu, known as the Anywhere Registration/Licensing system," the Chief Minister said making a statement under rule 110 in the Assembly.
