TN Government employees belligerent

The Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association took a firm stand to not back out of their decision to go on mass casual leave on Tuesday despite the government assigning a group of State Ministers to hold talks with them and remained belligerent in their bid to fight for their rights.

Chennai:The Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association took a firm stand to not back out of their decision to go on mass casual leave on Tuesday despite the government assigning a group of State Ministers to hold talks with them and remained belligerent in their bid to fight for their rights.

Association president S Tamil Selvi and general secretary S Jayarajeshwaran said on Monday that their future plan of agitation would be decided at State Executive meeting of the association to be held at Erode on March 8, regretting that the State government had reneged on its promises given during the elections.

When the JACTO-GEO, another federation of government employees and government teachers, wanted to go on a strike, the government assigned some Ministers to hold talks with them and managed to break the strike plan.

Insisting on the government acceding to their demands in the 20-point charter, the Tamil Selvi and Jayarajeshwaran said that when the association announced the one day mass casual leave the government did not hold any talks with them.

They said that the committee of Ministers, headed by the PWD Minister, to hold talks with the association was only an eyewash and that they would at no cost accept the new pension scheme for them.

They recalled that DMK during the elections had assured to revive the old pension scheme if it was voted to power but did nothing about it in the last four years and only blamed the Union Government for it.
