TN Farmers Association Demands Bridge Linking Kudikadu-Ramanallur

The Tamil Nadu Cauvery Farmers Protection Association has appealed to CM Vijay to take steps to construct a bridge connecting Kudikadu in Thanjavur district & Ramanallur, an island in the Kollidam River.

Thanjavur: The Tamil Nadu Cauvery Farmers Protection Association has appealed to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to take steps to construct a bridge connecting Kudikadu in Thanjavur district and Ramanallur, an island in the Kollidam river, so that people may go easily to the nearby Ariyalur district and vice versa.

In a letter sent to the Chief Minister on Thursday, Sundara Vimalanathan, secretary of the association, said that the bridge will reduce 19 km of travel for people from Thanjavur district to Ariyalur district. Fuel may also be saved. Representations had been made to the district collector and revenue divisional officer of Kumbakonam in this connection many times by the farmers of the district in the past.
The bridge will help move agricultural produce of 27 villages around Ramanallur to reach Kumbakonam and Thanjavur markets and also allow a large number of students to reach colleges and schools in the Kumbakonam and Thanjavur area. Former MLA of Papanasam, Jawaharilluah, had raised the issue in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly two times in the past.
"The bridge is very much necessary, and it is learnt from Highways Department officials that estimates have been prepared for the project and are waiting for financial sanction and administrative approval. So the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister should take steps to get NABARD funds for the project and implement it either through the Highways Department or the Rural Development Department in the interest of people of Ariyalur and Thanjavur districts," said Vimalanathan. To highlight this demand, people formed a human chain recently, said Vimalanathan.
