TN CM Vijay Announces ₹134.83 Crore Kuruvai Package
Scheme to boost paddy cultivation across delta and non-delta regions; new force aimed at enhancing women’s safety

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay on Friday announced the Kuruvai Special Package Scheme–2026, aimed at promoting paddy cultivation across the state. The scheme, with an estimated outlay of ₹134.83 crore, will benefit farmers in both delta and non-delta districts.
Paddy cultivation remains central to Tamil Nadu’s food security and the livelihoods of farmers. Seasonal cultivation during Kuruvai, Kar and Sornavari significantly contributes to the state’s agricultural output, particularly in the Cauvery delta and adjoining regions.
On average, paddy is cultivated over 52.72 lakh acres annually in the state. Of this, about 20.65 lakh acres fall within delta districts such as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai, with Kuruvai cultivation accounting for nearly 5.14 lakh acres. Non-delta districts contribute the remaining 32.07 lakh acres under paddy cultivation.
The Chief Minister said the initiative aims to encourage farmers to take up Kuruvai cultivation and improve both productivity and overall output.
Earlier this week, CM Vijay also launched the ‘Singappen Special Force’, a dedicated initiative to strengthen women’s safety and improve law and order across the state.
Calling it a key commitment, he said, “This is not just an election promise. We assured women that we would ensure the safety of our families, and within a short period of assuming office, we have taken this important step.”
The initiative, he added, reflects the government’s focus on ensuring safety and security for all citizens across Tamil Nadu.
