Mayiladuthurai: Police arrested four persons, two of them women, in connection with the murder of a welding employee, over a financial dispute, at Nallathu Kudi village, near Mayiladuthurai, Sunday night.
The police said Gopinath (46) from Nallathu Kudi, a welding employee, had obtained a loan from Moniga, wife of Sundaramoorthy of the same area, and there was a dispute over the money transaction.
People from Sundaramoorthy’s and Gopinath’s side recently went to the Mayiladuthurai police station to sort out the dispute when the police advised them to go to court.
In the meantime, Sundaramoorthy, his wife, his brother-in-law Vairamuthu and his wife Usha Nandhini approached Gopinath at his residence Sunday night and demanded he repay the loan amount.
This led to an altercation and at one stage, Sundaramoorthy hit Gopinath on the head with a log. Gopinath died on the spot.
His son Gokulavasan was injured when he attempted to protect his father, and he has been hospitalised.
The Mayiladuthurai police arrested Sundaramoorthy, Moniga, Vairamuthu and Usha Nandhini and are investigating.
There was a road roko in protest against the murder, but the police removed the agitators and restored normalcy.
