Tamil Nadu: Vijay Clarifies On His Body Language

Vijay requested people not to interpret his gesture as an act aimed at hurting the feelings of anyone: Reports

CHENNAI: Clarifying that his body language during his reply to the demands for grants for grants for the police and fire service department in the Assembly on Monday, which was termed as offensive by some, was not a deliberate act but something that came across inadvertently, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay said it was not intended to hurt anyone.

In a message on X on Tuesday, Vijay requested people not to interpret his gesture as an act aimed at hurting the feelings of anyone at the personal level.

Vijay had placed his hand against his jaw during his speech in the Assembly giving rise to the criticism that he was mocking at former Chief Minister and DMK chief M K Stalin’s jaw injury that he had reportedly sustained when he was put in jail during the Emergency.

Critics called Vijay’s gesture as body shaming and political parties like the DMK and the CPM, which is extending support to the TVK government, came down on it. The DMK members in the House besieged the chair of Speaker J C D Prabhakar in protest against it. Social media enthusiasts, too, said the remark and gesture were in bad taste.
