CHENNAI: Revamping the DMK by raising the number of party districts from 77 to 110, party president M K Stalin said the organization, functioning on four foundations – principles, party structure, activities and cadre base – has undergone several changes over the years and has seen 15 organizational elections and the 16th election would be held next.
While the newly formed party districts comprise two or three Assembly seats each, the State’s biggest constituency, Sholinganallur, would be a single district, Stalin said his statement on Friday, adding that was revamp was being done on the basis of the recommendation of a committee formed for the purpose and discussions with the top brass of the party.
Chennai has been divided into 10 party districts, while the other revenue districts have one or two or three or four- or five-party districts, the statement said.
The present district secretaries in the new 110 party districts would come out with a plan to form the town, union, regional, town panchayat, circle and branch units in two-week time in the presence of the representatives sent from the party headquarters, he said.
The revamping was planned as a part of the steps to be taken to renew the party and take it to the people in the aftermath of its defeat in the Assembly elections that saw many of the top leaders, including Stalin getting defeated in their constituencies.
