Tamil Nadu: Quarry Owners Seek Govt Approval For Inter-State Mineral Transport
Quarry Owners urged the government to withdraw the ban and allow inter-state transportation of minor minerals subject to the existing legal provisions.
Dindigul: Quarry owners and members of lorry owners’ associations on Monday urged the Tamil Nadu government to lift the ban on transporting minor minerals to other states, saying the restriction had severely affected the quarrying, crushing and transport sectors.
The demand was made at a consultation meeting of the Tamil Nadu Quarry, Crusher and Lorry Owners’ Association at Sirumalai here, amid legal proceedings challenging the restriction.
Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, association state president Chinnasamy said the government should restore permission for transporting minor minerals to other states in accordance with the law. He urged the government to withdraw the ban and allow inter-state transportation of minor minerals subject to the existing legal provisions.
It is to be noted that the Madras high court on Monday directed the state government to file its response within two weeks on a petition filed by Premanathan on the issue. Another petition, filed by Kanyakumari-based truck owner P. Libin Ponnusamy Leela on the same issue, is pending before the Madurai bench of the Madras high court.
