Tamil Nadu Plans International-Standard Startup Incubator in Kovai
Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, P. Mathan Raja visited T-Hub in Hyderabad on September 21 as part of efforts to study the Telangana model and explore opportunities for cooperation
Chennai: Tamil Nadu plans to establish an international-standard industrial incubator in Coimbatore to promote startups and develop innovative solutions to major social and industrial challenges, Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, P. Mathan Raja.
The minister visited T-Hub, a major startup incubation centre, and T-Works, described as the country’s largest prototyping centre, in Hyderabad on September 21 as part of efforts to study the Telangana model and explore opportunities for cooperation.
The proposed incubator was announced in the 2026-27 demand for grants of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Department. It is intended to bring together entrepreneurs working to identify critical problems and needs with the potential to create an impact at the international level.
The facility will provide entrepreneurs with mentoring, financial assistance and other forms of support to help them develop innovative solutions to practical challenges and build new startups, the Minister said.
During his visit to Hyderabad, Mathan Raja held discussions with Telangana IT, Electronics, Communications, Industries and Commerce and Legislative Affairs Minister Sridhar Babu on startup development and the proposed incubator in Coimbatore.
Sridhar Babu expressed Telangana’s willingness to work with the Tamil Nadu government to promote the startup ecosystem and the growth of MSMEs in both states.
He said cooperation between the two states could open up new opportunities for entrepreneurs and help them participate in joint initiatives.
Minister invited Sridhar Babu to visit Tamil Nadu to explore areas where the two governments could collaborate on various projects.
Senior officials of the Tamil Nadu and Telangana governments participated in the discussions.
The State government intends to implement the proposed incubator during the current year, with the Hyderabad visit aimed at drawing on the experience of Telangana’s established startup and innovation ecosystem.
