Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar Invites TVK Leader To Form Government After He Stakes Claim With Support Of 120 MLAs In The 234-Member Assembly; Majority Test Within Three Days.

In a dramatic end to days of political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu, C. Joseph Vijay, president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, was on Saturday appointed Chief Minister-designate by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar under Article 164 of the Constitution of India.
Vijay called on the Governor at Lok Bhavan in Chennai and staked claim to form the government, submitting letters of support from 120 MLAs-elect in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. As leader of the single largest party, he was invited to form the government.
The Governor has asked Vijay to prove his majority on the floor of the House within three days of taking oath. Vijay is scheduled to be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at 10 AM on Sunday.
