Chennai:Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay allocated Rs 340 crore to augment the water shortage in the State caused by the poor rains brought about by the South West monsoon this year and help tide over the crisis.
Presiding over a meeting at the Secretariat on Friday to review the rainfall, storage position, water level in dams and related issues, Vijay urged the officials to hold regular meetings to review the water supply and take quick decisions to ensure that there was no shortage.
The meeting was told that 20 districts had recorded 19 to 59 percent less waterfall than normal showers this year and the districts of Chengalpattu and Ramanathpuram had recorded 60 percent less rainfall. So the Chief Minister allocated Rs 340 crore to take up programmes to augment the water shortage.
