Astrologer Held for Threatening Canadian Woman With Private Video

Chennai: A parrot astrologer was arrested for allegedly blackmailing a 37-year-old Canadian woman who was visiting Tamil Nadu after persuading her to perform a ritual over a video call and recording the interaction.
According to police, the woman had visited a beach near Besant Nagar in Chennai, where she met the parrot astrologer. She approached him to know about her future. The astrologer allegedly told her that he had seen her on television and that she could achieve success if she followed his instructions.
He allegedly told the woman that she had to perform certain rituals without clothes and claimed that the ritual could also be performed through a video call. Believing his claims, the woman reportedly performed the ritual over a video call. The astrologer allegedly collected ₹20,000 from her.
Later, he allegedly threatened the woman, claiming that he had recorded the video and would upload it on social media if she refused to pay him more money. He also allegedly threatened to demand money from her whenever he wanted.
The woman subsequently approached the police and lodged a complaint. Based on her complaint, police arrested the accused, identified as Isukkimuthu, on Thursday. Further investigation is underway.
