Tamil Nadu Assembly Session Begins Today
Thenarasu said publishing white papers was not new to the State's politics: Reports

CHENNAI: The Budget session of the State Legislature that begins on Thursday with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar delivering the customary Governor’s address is expected to be a stormy one witnessing walk outs by the leading opposition parties.
The 17-member Business Advisory Committee (BAC) headed by Speaker J C D Prabhakar will finalise the agenda for the session that is likely to be adjourned after the Governor’s Address and the debate on it spanning a few days to resume for the Budget presentation.
While the BAC, comprising Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and 7 Ministers among others. would decide on the proceedings, the opposition is expected to rake up a plethora of issues that could lead to disruptions in the House
Since the TVK has come out with a White Paper examining the public finances in the State, the opposition parties could take an aggressive stand in pinning down the Government with their questions leading to a stormy situation affecting the smooth conduct of legislative business.
While former Finance Minister in the DMK government, Thangam Thenarasu, challenged the TVK government to borrow less than what the White Paper has accused the previous regime of indulging in, the BJP State president Nainar Nagendran has also criticised the White Papers.
Thenarasu said publishing white papers was not new to the State's politics. So, such issues could be raised during the session in various forms by the parties opposed to the present Government, mainly the DMK, AIADMK and BJP.
The Speaker has already announced that Palanswami would be the leader of the AIADMK party in the House removing all ambiguities on it. In the case relating to the resignation of four AIADMK MLAs, the Speaker had obtained their explanations for submission in the court.
With the latest resignation of C Vijayabaskar from the House, the AIADMK strength has gone down to 41 from 47 seats won in the election.
The ruling party could face allegations of horse trading from the opposition parties, particularly the AIADMK that faced the brunt of the latest political trend, since several leaders and functionarie from other parties have also defected to join the TVK in the last one month other than the elected members.
Another bone of contention between the ruling party and the DMK could be the singing of the national song, Vante Matharam, ahead of the Tamil anthem, 'Neerarum Kadaludutha,' as it has been happening in government events attended by the Governor.
