Tamil Nadu: 3 Canteen Workers of College Arrested For Raping Woman

Chennai: Three persons were arrested for sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman working at Nandanam Government Arts and Science College at multiple locations in the college and a lodge for some time.

The arrested included Muthuselvam, who is running a canteen inside the college besides Gunasekaran and Karthikeyan. A press release from the Greater Chennai police on Thursday said the sexual assault at multiple locations for some time came to light after the victim filed a complaint with the Saidapet all-women police station through the social welfare department’s one stop centre.

The woman belonging to Ariyalur, in her complaint, said she was sexually assaulted at several places in the college including the canteen, other parts of the college and a lodge for some time.

The police registered a case and arrested the criminals after the charges were proved in the investigation. The enquiries showed that one of the accused Muthuselvam brought the woman from Ariyalur and got her a job in the canteen. The canteen is run by Muthuselvam through a 12-year-contract awarded by the government. The victim was provided medical treatment and counselling and the accused were sent to judicial custody.
