Stalin Stresses On Plurality, Diversity

"We are many voices and many identities shaping a nation. India moves forward when every citizen can live with dignity, confidence and freedom": Chief Minister M K Stalin

CHENNAI: Stressing on the plurality and diversity of the country, Chief Minister M K Stalin, in his Republic Day message on Monday, urged the people to celebrate a unified India and not a uniform India that would remain a country where ‘cultures enrich one another, languages co-exist with pride and faith is a personal truth.’

In an apparent dig at the BJP that has been promoting the idea of a single culture, religion and language, Stalin said in a social media post: ‘We are many voices and many identities shaping a nation. India moves forward when every citizen can live with dignity, confidence and freedom.

The nation’s strength had never been ‘sameness’ but always ‘our many-ness,’ he said, adding that when diversity was protected, belonging felt natural and the future stayed open to everyone, equally. The message raised the slogan, ‘Velvom Ondraga’ (Together, We Shall Triumph) and gave the promise ‘In Tamil Nadu’s march to prosperity we shall leave no one behind.’

Leader of the opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami, in his Republic Day message, made a clarion call to the people to take a pledge to strengthen Indian democracy on the basis of the ideals of social justice, equality and fraternity enunciated in the Constitution.

Calling for upholding the dignity of the Constitution, president of the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) Vijay, in his Republic Day message, said, ‘Let’s remember all those who strove for the creation of the country with unity in diversity.
