THANJAVUR: The exorbitant rent for city corporation shops in Thanjavur town should be reduced, said city corporation councillors here on Wednesday.
Speaking at the corporation council meeting, mayor (in-charge) Anjugam Bhoopathy said that 10 per cent reduction has been approved in a resolution adopted in the council meeting. DMK councillor S. Venkatesh said that a textile shop in Thiruvalluvar commercial complex is functioning in violation of all rules. A committee should examine it and submit a report.
Another DMK councillor said that there are a lot of violations in the parking area in the complex. The mayor asked the town planning officer to look into the matter.
Councillors also said that drinking water overhead tanks in three places are without power connection. They should be given connections and put to use.
