SC dismisses petitions against Udhayanidhi Stalin
Chennai: The Supreme Court dismissed the three writ petitions filed before it seeking the filing of an FIR against Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for his remarks against Sanatana Dharma, saying that he had not violated any provisions of the Constitution.
After Justices Bela M Trivedi and Prassana B Varale pronounced their verdict, the petitioner withdrew their petitions.
Udhayanidhi had said on March 29, 2023, at a Sanatanam Abolition Conference organized by the Progressive Writers Association that he was happy that the title of the conference demanded abolition of Sanatana Dharma and not just wanted to oppose it.
Objecting to the remark, a lawyer, P Jeganath and two others filed the writ petitions that were dismissed on Monday. While senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi argued for the Union Government, Senior Advocate and DMK MP P Wilson appeared for Udhayanidhi Stalin.
