Satya Chandrashekarendra Saraswathi Anointed 71st Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam
25-year-old Rig Vedic scholar from Andhra Pradesh takes over as junior pontiff at grand Akshaya Tritiya ceremony
Chennai: The Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam anointed Satya Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi as its 71st acharya at a grand ceremony in Kamakshi Ambal temple in Kanchipuram on Wednesday.
Amid chants of Hara Hara Sankara, Jaya Jaya Sankara by thousands of devotees who witnessed the solemn event, Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, the current seer of the Kanchi mutt, inducted Duddu Satya Venkata Surya Subrahmanya Ganesha Sharma Dravid as the next pontiff and named him Satya Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi during the Sanyasa Sweekara Mahotsavam.
Vijayendre Saraswathi Swamigal also elaborated on the significance of the name given to the new acharya. After the ceremony, both the acharyas had darshan of goddess Kamakshi and they were taken in a ceremonial procession to Sankara mutt. Several spiritual leaders, TN governor R.N Ravi, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran and former union minister Subramanian Swamy attended the event.
