Salem: Milk producers’ association members have stated that the increase in the milk procurement price, announced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday, from Rs. 38 to Rs. 41 per litre, was inadequate as the producers had been demanding an increase of Rs. 7.
Cattle feed prices had gone up. The prices of various inputs required for milk production had risen. Aavin procurement price was lower than that offered by private milk companies by Rs 12 per litre, said M.G. Rajendran, general secretary of the Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Welfare Association.
15,000 to 20,000 litres of milk per day that would otherwise come to Aavin were now going to private companies, he said, adding that Aavin procurement had come down from 33 lakh litres of milk per day to 27.5 lakh litres per day. This could go down further, he said.
