Round-the-Clock Two-Wheeler Patrol Launched by Tambaram Police

Police personnel will also be provided with modern helmets and reflective jackets.

Chennai:The Tambaram city police have launched a new round-the-clock, two-wheeler patrol system, ‘Smart Khaki Beat System’, equipping personnel with 73 special motorcycles to strengthen surveillance, prevent crime and improve emergency response across the commissionerate limits.

Tambaram city police commissioner Amalraj inaugurated the new initiative at the Armed Reserve Police campus in Paduvanchery, near Selaiyur, on Friday.

Under the system, the entire Tambaram police commissionerate limits has been divided into 73 beats, covering all police stations and their respective jurisdictions. Each beat will have a dedicated two-wheeler patrol unit to ensure continuous police presence.

The motorcycles have been equipped with public address systems, body-worn cameras, walkie-talkies, Android mobile phones, flashing warning lights, sirens, light bars, baton holders and storage boxes.

Police personnel will also be provided with modern helmets and reflective jackets.

The patrol units will operate round-the-clock in three shifts, with personnel working on a rotational basis. They will respond immediately to emergency calls received through the police helpline 100.

Inaugurating the system, commissioner Amalraj said the 73 beat patrol units will take care of law and order, crime prevention, traffic regulation and other public services within their respective jurisdictions.

“The initiative aims to instil confidence among the public that police personnel are available close to their homes and will reach them immediately whenever assistance is required,” he said.

Police officials said the system would ensure continuous surveillance across the commissionerate under the direct supervision of senior officers and help prevent criminal activities.
