Residents, VCK Cadre Protest Against Untouchability Wall Near Vilathikulam

The protesters alleged that the wall had been erected by members of a dominant community and claimed that revenue authorities in Vilathikulam had issued a patta for the land on which it stands. They demanded cancellation of the patta and action against the officials responsible for issuing it.
They alleged that nearly one acre of land belonging to Adi Dravidar residents had been encroached upon and sought its recovery and restoration to the community.

The residents said they had been protesting against the wall for nearly three years and, alleging continued inaction by the district administration, had shifted to the village burial ground on Independence Day to intensify their agitation. If their demand continues to be ignored, the protesters warned that they would intensify the protest across the state.
