Rameswaram Fishermen Seek Fishing Permit for Fibre, Steel Boats

RAMESWARAM: Fishermen of Rameswaram held a protest demonstration Monday at the Rameswaram fisheries department token office, demanding fishing permit token and diesel subsidy for their modified fibre boats and steel boats.

However, the fisheries department states that such modified fibre boats and steel boats are not eligible for fishing permits in Rameswaram.

Fishermen said they continue to struggle without fishing permits and subsidised diesel for their fibre and steel boats.

After Monday’s protest, they announced that they will hold major protests, including road blockades, to demand that the government accept their demands.
