Government not protecting the procured paddy from the elements of nature: AIADMK general secretary Edppadi K Palaniswami
CHENNAI: Alleging that 5 lakh paddy bags at the procurement centres across the State, including the delta region, have been soaked, rendering the grains in them useless in the sudden rains as they were kept in the open with no protection, AIADMK general secretary Edppadi K Palaniswami expressed the fear that the spoiled rice would be routed to the Public Distribution System.
Launching a scathing attack on the TVK government for not doing the paddy procurement in an organized manner, Palaniwami, in a statement, accused the government of not protecting the procured paddy from the elements of nature.
The two days' rains had soaked the paddy bags as they were left outside without a roof over the paddy bags and poor people who depend on rice supplied through ration shops would bear the brunt of it as the spoiled grains would be dumped on them, he said.
