Public Can Take Alluvial Soil From Water Bodies

The government was keen on desilting the water bodies ahead of the setting in of the North East monsoon as it wanted to increase the holding capacity of the ponds and lakes for the benefit of agriculture.

Chennai:Allowing the extraction of alluvial soil by farmers, potters and individuals from the 40,000 water bodies in the State, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay urged the district collectors to implement the scheme effectively by listing out the lakes and ponds located in the various districts in the State gazette.

In a review a meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday, preside over by Vijay, it was decided that those who need the alluvial soil that get deposited in the water bodies as silt, could apply for extracting it from the ponds and lake under the control of the local bodies in the State through the website tnesevai.tn.gov.in and permission would be granted in 10 days.
