People Resent DMK Rule: EPS

The biggest gift the Stalin government had given to the people of the State in its 50 month rule was a debt burden of Rs four lakh crore, he said, pointing to the DMK reneging in its promise to create 10 lakh jobs if it came to power in 2021.

Chennai: All sections of people in the State were unhappy with the functioning of the DMK government as its peccadillos and misconduct were affecting them tremendously particularly the breakdown of law and order and the collapse of the administration, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said.

In a letter to his party cadre on Wednesday after carrying out two days of campaign in four constituencies in Coimbatore seeking support for the AIADMK-led coalition in the 2026 Assembly elections, he said he met with farmers, weavers, members of residents associations, brick kiln owners and other who lamented over the power tariff hike, tax increase and price hike affecting their lives.

The biggest gift the Stalin government had given to the people of the State in its 50 month rule was a debt burden of Rs four lakh crore, he said, pointing to the DMK reneging in its promise to create 10 lakh jobs if it came to power in 2021.

While the promise was to appoint 5.5 lakh people in government posts by filling up 3.5 lakh vacancies and generating another 2 lakh job opportunities, what actually happened was that only 50,000 appointments were made though the number of persons who retired from government services in the last four years exceeded that number.

The other issues that were bogging down the people were the going back in the promise to bring in the old pension scheme for government employees and teachers, delay in the disbursal of salaries in educational institutions, incidents of sexual violence in campuses and regular incidents of old people getting killed, he said.

People’s response that he received in the two days of interaction was telling as they all indicated the return of the AIADMK to power in 2026, Palaniswami said.

Speaking at Vadavalli in Coimbatore, he said ‘Stalin Rule, Simple Waste,’ and expressed the hope of the AIADMK-led coalition sweeping 210 of the 234 Assembly constituencies due to the people’s dissatisfaction over the DMK government on various fronts.

He criticized the setting up of colleges by the Hindu Religious and Endowments Board (HR&CE) department with temple money and the plan to hand over land belonging to the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University to the SIPCOT. The university has 225 acres in Coimbatore and research centres in other places.

Referring to the speeches and remarks of leaders of parties like the CPM and VCK, he said that the DMK-led alliance was on shaky ground. ‘There is too much confusion in your coalition,’ Palaniswami told Stalin and added that the AIADMK led alliance was strong.
