Over 40,000 People Attend Kite Festival in Mamallapuram
The festival was organised by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department in collaboration with Global Media Box from August 14 to 16 at the TTDC Ocean View premises

Mamallapuram: Over 40,000 visitors attended the 5th Tamil Nadu International Kite Festival 2026, which concluded successfully after a three-day run at the coastal heritage town of Mamallapuram, the state tourism department said on Monday. The festival was organised by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department in collaboration with Global Media Box from August 14 to 16 at the TTDC Ocean View premises.
Inaugurated on August 14 by state Tourism Minister S Rajesh Kumar, the event took place in the presence of Tourism Director and Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) Managing Director V P Jeyaseelan, Chengalpattu District Collector M Veerappan, and other senior government officials.
Kite flyers from various countries participated in the event, showcasing massive kites in diverse shapes and vibrant colours.
Held over the Independence Day weekend, the festival featured large-scale kite displays, musical and entertainment performances, as well as food and handicraft stalls, catering to families and children while boosting tourism in Mamallapuram.
