Omnibus Catches Fire On Flyover Near Vellore
Firefighters rushed to the spot and put out the fire in 40 minutes. More than half of the bus was severely damaged.
Vellore: An omnibus caught fire and was gutted in flames on Poigai flyover near Vellore, causing commotion and disrupting traffic on the National Highway yesterday.
Moideen, a resident of Saidapet in Vellore, would purchase old vehicles on the bypass road, dismantle them, and sell the spare parts. Yesterday, Moideen bought a damaged omnibus from Coimbatore at a low price. The bus was being transported to Vellore using a crane vehicle.
When the bus reached the Poigai flyover in Vellore district, the rear tyre of the bus burst and caught fire. The flames rapidly spread throughout the bus. Motorists informed the crane driver and the bus was immediately stopped on the flyover. Firefighters rushed to the spot and put out the fire in 40 minutes. More than half of the bus was severely damaged.
