Oduvars will Take Part in Kumbabhishekam Rituals: Minister
He clarified that the Tamil Oduvars would participate in the Meenakshi Amman temple consecration
MADURAI: Tamil Oduvars will participate in the consecration ceremony of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple in Madurai, Hindu religious and charitable endowments minister S. Ramesh said on Wednesday.
The minister’s statement came after a section of Tamil Oduvars staged a protest outside the Meenakshi Amman temple demanding that they be allowed to participate in the consecration rituals.
Ramesh, along with his Cabinet colleague C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, held talks with the protesting Oduvars.
Later, the HR&CE minister said arrangements had been made for Tamil recitations during the yagasala rituals and 27 Oduvars from across Tamil Nadu had been specially brought to Madurai and had been engaged in the rituals since September 11.
“Whenever consecration rituals are held in temples under the HR&CE department, arrangements are made to have Oduvars conduct Tamil recitations. We will always give priority to Tamil,” said Ramesh.
He clarified that the Tamil Oduvars would participate in the Meenakshi Amman temple consecration and said the Oduvars currently serving in the temple had been appointed by the department. None of the department-appointed Oduvars had participated in the protest on Wednesday, he clarified.
