NLC Celebrates Gandhi Jayanthi With Green Drives, Community Felicitations

Neyveli:NLC India Limited (NLCIL) joined the nation in commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today with a series of community-centric, environmental, and cultural events across its Neyveli premises.
The central public sector enterprise also remembered former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary.
The celebrations commenced with the garlanding of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at the Township Administration office premises by Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) & Director (Finance) Addl. Charge, alongside Directors Dr. Suresh Chandra Suman, Shri Samir Swarup, and Shri Rajesh Pratap Singh Sisodia. Neyveli Ladies Club members rendered Gandhiji’s favourite hymn, "Ramdhun".
Marking the spirit of cleanliness, the CMD flagged off a Swachhata Rally featuring 100 students from Jawahar Science College. Emphasising the dignity of labour, the top leadership felicitated 76 Safai Mitras (sanitary workers) for their dedicated services and awarded prizes to the winners of the Swachhata Rangoli competition. The main event at Yegneswaran Auditorium opened with the devotional hymn "Vaishnava Janatho," followed by multi-faith scripture readings by representatives of Shri Ramakrishna Seva Sangam, Indian Christian Cultural Association, Neyveli Muslim Jamaath, and school students.
A thematic cultural programme, "Anjali," showcased performances on non-violence and truth staged by various regional cultural associations, Women In Public Sector (WIPS), and Sneha Opportunity School. Neyveli Ladies Club members also distributed educational kits and sweets to 20 elementary school children.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Acharya highlighted that Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of sustainability, self-reliance, and cleanliness remain crucial guideposts for India's energy transition and nation-building. He urged employees to adopt operational excellence, environmental stewardship, and teamwork to build a progressive and responsible institution. Following community worship at the Villuduyanpattu Murugan Temple, NLCIL partnered with the Cuddalore District Administration to launch an eco-restoration initiative at the Mine-IA afforestation area. Chief guests Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, Cuddalore District Collector, and Dr. Acharya led a massive drive in which 5,000 Palmyra palm seeds were sown to foster ecological balance and a greener tomorrow.
