Nirmal Kumar: DVAC Raids Against Nehru Not Political Vendetta
He said he had no information about the details of the case involving Nehru and that the agency would have to clarify the action taken

MADURAI: Minister for energy resources and law C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar on Saturday dismissed allegations of political vendetta over the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) searches on the premises of former DMK minister K.N. Nehru, saying the agency’s action was based on complaints and evidence.
Speaking to mediapersons after paying floral tributes to freedom fighter V.O. Chidambaranar on his 155th birth anniversary at his statue in Simmakkal here, Nirmal Kumar said no one had the right to interfere in the functioning of the DVAC.
He said he had no information about the details of the case involving Nehru and that the agency would have to clarify the action taken.
Responding to DMK deputy general secretary and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi’s allegation that people in Tamil Nadu were not safe, Nirmal Kumar said the poor and ordinary people had complete protection. “Only corrupt people have no protection, as cases are being registered against them,” he said.
Alleging that the DMK and AIADMK had entered into a secret understanding against the TVK government, Nirmal Kumar said he suspected that the two Dravidian parties could even join hands with the BJP to take on the TVK alliance in the 2029 Lok Sabha election. However, he claimed that irrespective of the alliance they joined, the TVK in Tamil Nadu was “invincible”.
On speculation over Rahul Gandhi and TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay being projected as possible prime ministerial candidates, he said there was no need to discuss the issue at present and that there was still time for such political calculations.
Regarding the sanitation workers’ agitation, Nirmal Kumar said contract workers were employed across Tamil Nadu and that decisions concerning them would be taken on a department-wise basis, covering all districts. The government would take appropriate measures for the welfare of the poor, he said.
