New Traffic System in Thanjavur Goes Haywire
The one-way traffic was introduced to remove traffic congestion near Big Temple. But it resulted in other problems
THANJAVUR: The one-way traffic introduced on July 13 in Thanjavur has run into rough weather, resulting in congestion on Court road and Gandhiji road. This evoked immediate and sharp reaction from people, who appealed to district authorities and the police to reconsider the decision. Following this, P. Nithiya, RDO of Thanjavur, took a relook into the system on Wednesday.
Various options were discussed. One is widening the court road and the other is making parking space vacating the government workshop and police traffic park near Big Temple.

Big Temple attracts a large number of tourists on weekends. Parking space before Big Temple overflows and vehicles spill over court roads.
Nearly 2 lakh people visit the temple on pradosham temple during Saturdays, when abhishekam will be done to Nandhi in the temple.
