Minister Reviews Monsoon Readiness in Alandur, Adyar Zones

The review meeting, held at the Secretariat, focused on the preventive measures being taken by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) and various service departments in the two zones.

The minister directed the officials to expedite ongoing stormwater drain works and ensure that waterbodies, canals, stormwater drains and silt-trapping chambers were cleared of water hyacinth and desilted comprehensively to facilitate free flow of rainwater.

He also instructed officials to keep motor pumps ready in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging so that stagnant rainwater could be removed without delay during heavy rainfall.

Officials were asked to ensure basic amenities at relief camps identified for accommodating residents during the monsoon and maintain adequate stocks of food items at centralised kitchens.

The minister stressed coordination among the GCC, departments of water resources, electricity and highways and Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to complete all precautionary measures this month itself.

The state government has appointed ministers and zonal monitoring officers to oversee monsoon preparedness measures across GCC zones.

Vage Sanketh Balwanth, monitoring officer for Alandur, and Dr K Senthil Raj, monitoring officer for Adyar, along with zonal officers and officials from the GCC and other service departments, attended the meeting.
