Minister Announces Recruitment of 6,000 Assistant Professors for Government Colleges
Viswanathan said 10 government arts and science colleges with NAAC accreditation would be upgraded as autonomous colleges and Rs. 20 crore would be sanctioned for the purpose.
Chennai: Higher Education minister P. Viswanathan on Monday announced that 6,000 assistant professors would be appointed in three phases for government arts and science colleges, engineering colleges. He said Rs. 1,000 crore would be allocated to improve the infrastructure of government educational institutions.
Replying to the debate on the demand for grants to his department in the Assembly, the minister said the consolidated pay of guest lecturers in government arts and science colleges and engineering colleges would be increased from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 35,000. He also announced an education guarantee scheme to provide loans up to Rs. 20 lakh without bonds to help the students to pursue higher studies.
Viswanathan said 10 government arts and science colleges with NAAC accreditation would be upgraded as autonomous colleges and Rs. 20 crore would be sanctioned for the purpose. He also allocated Rs. 36 crore for providing equipment to 206 government arts and science colleges.
The minister said 260 interactive smart boards would be provided to 130 Grade II government arts and science colleges and Rs. 8 crore would be allocated for laboratory chemicals and glass equipment. He said Periyar Institute for Emerging Technologies would be established to provide education in developing fields like Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Mechanics, Bio-technology, Climate technology and cyber security.
He also announced the development of Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Policy to transform the State into a knowledge-based economy, coordinate the resources, strengthen the local innovations, increase investments in research and development, strengthen intellectual property rights and ensure equal distribution of the benefits of science and technology for all, He said Rs 5 lakh each would be provided for ten schemes of students who design satellites. He also announced that German and Japanese language would be provided to students.
